Viggars

The name Viggars comes into my family line when my Grandma Gladys Viggars married my Grandad selwyn Ing.My grandma ,as a child lived at The Old Offices, close to Harrison Woodburn cottages. She lived with her parents,Sarah Jane Viggars (Nee Tomkinson) and William Charles Viggars and her 3 brothers ,Charles Herbert Viggars,Harold Viggars and Alfred Viggars, they had another brother called Bertie Viggars who unfortunatley died in infancy. As the 4 children grew up the family moved up to the village,12 Top Street. This is the house my Grandma was living in when she met my Grandad, when they married they lived for a short while on Station Road,Miles Green before moving back to The Old Offices where they had my father Charles Vernon Ing,they lived there for several years, also rearing pigs and chickens.
Whilst my Grandma was raising her family ,her parents Sarah Jane & William Charles Viggars moved house again from Top Street to the cricket field,120 Park Terrace. This is where they lived out the rest of their lives,Charles Herbert was also still living with them as he never married.Once Sarah & William had both passed away,my Grandma moved her family up to the house at Park Terrace. This was the house that I knew as the family home.Growing up at Leycett my Dad was a member of the cricket team ,the football team and he used to play tennis & bowls as did most of the Leycett residents.
Harold & Alfred shared the captaincy for the Leycett cricket club during the 1920's & 1930's,cricket was an important family game for us,William Charles Viggars (My G Grandad) was also a member of the team,as you can see form the earliest of the team photos on the cricket pages.
