The festival was held in Farmer Ted Askey’s field on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May 1970,and cost 50 Shilling to get in. As you can see form the poster the line up was a bit different from the actual performances. Saturday Performances were (not necessarily in this order): · Demon Fuzz, · Trader Horne · Screaming Lord Sutch · Mungo Jerry · Family · Titus Groan · Mike Cooper. · Ginger Bakers Airforce · Tony Joe White. Sunday Performances were (not necessarily in this order): · The Flaming Groovies. · Black Sabbath. · Wildmouth · Quintessence. · Colosseum. · Free · Grateful Dead · Mungo Jerry · Jose Feliciano · Traffic. This photo was taken facing towards Lower Farm house, set in the distance. As you can see there was a huge turnout for the concert as it was the first Rock concert to be held in the northern part of Britain and attracted 45,000 music fans including my father from far and wide, some even from America - the 30-acre field was completely swamped. The tents on the other side of the wooden fence (which had been specially erected and cost near on £3000 to keep the crowds at bay) were for the performers. People that have logged accounts of this concert have all failed to mention that set on the left hand side of the stage was I giant pair of ‘boobs and on the other I giant ‘willy’, both of which were inflated. This shot was taken during the Grateful Dead’s set, Sunday afternoon/early evening. Hollywood Music Festival - Leycett Online

This photo shows Screaming Lord Such’s set at the concert, I am guessing so because of the smoke that was let off into the crowd, which only happened during his performance. Farmer Ted who was the host of the festival gives a statement on how the festival came about: "It all came about because I used to collect pig swill from Keele University. Some of the student s came to the farm and told me about the festival idea. Then the Red Bus took it over. I thought it would be a bit of a concert. I didn't realize that it was going to be a big event at the beginning, but there was very little trouble apart from the fans burning every piece of wooden railing they could find for their fires. They drank the Crewe Arms pub in Madeley dry and local shops did very well out of the event. "
The concert should have been filmed by the BBC but the film crew were ‘spiked’ with LSD by the Dead and it never happened.
