There were only a few shops in Leycett from when the village was built.Below i have tried to show as much information as i can about the type of shop,who owned,worked and lived there and in what year (as close as i can get it).

Butchers Shop,???? Street - 1881 - Owned by Mr James Leigh who was born in Madeley 18??.His wife was a lady called Jane and was born in Newcastle 18??.They had 5 children all of whom were born in Leycett.There names were William,Olive,Mary Elizabeth,Sydney and Fredrick.

Grocers Shop 1,???? Street - 1881 - owned by Mr George Lowe who was born in Madeley in 18??.His wife was a lady called Elizabeth and was born in Silverdale.They had 3 children who were all born in Silverdale.There names were William,Ellen and George.

Grocers Shop 2,???? Street - 1881 - owned by Mr Thomas Holdcroft who was born in Willenhall in 1832.He was married to a lady called Anna who was born in Etwell (Derbyshire ) in 1852.They had 4 children called Lucy Jane,Elizabeth Jane and Rebekah A.

Post Office ???? Street - 1881 - Owned by Mr William Randles who was born in Leek in 1853.He was married to Hannah who was born in Leek in 1853.They had 2 children called John and George Richard who were both born in Leycett.*William Randles also worked a second job as a house painter.

There was also on the 1881 census a reading room in Leycett and the people who were listed as being there were Thomas & Catherine Wagstaff who had a lodger called Charles from Sneyd Green.
