The Miners Welfare Institute The Miners Institute was built in 18?? And situated behind the St Saviours Church, just off Leycett Lane. You cannot see the Institute behind the church on this photo of Jim Spender and Len Powell. Unfortunately I have not yet found a full photo of the institute. The miners institute was managed by a lady called Gladys Harrison who lived at Park Terrace with her family. She managed the Institute for many years. In order for the "Stute2 to operate the coal board/colliery kept back a certain amount of the miners weekly wage as "subs" to keep the place running. The Miners Institution - Leycett Online
